Stock outs of essential medicines are still experienced in half of the public sector health facilities in Uganda. Public health facilities in Uganda are categorized according to the level of care with level 2 and Hospital as the lowest and highest level respectively. A Ministry of Health report reveals that 47% of level 2 health facilities, 52% of level 3 health facilities, 53% of level 4 health facilities, and 60% of hospitals in Uganda experienced monthly stock outs of essential medicines in the period of July 2012 to June 2013.
